About you:
- Possess at least 1 year of recent payroll processing experience in a computerised environment
- Strong understanding of payroll procedures, tax, national insurance, and pension administration
- Knowledge of Local Government Terms and Conditions is highly desirable
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and payroll systems
- Demonstrates a professional, courteous approach when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
What you'll do:
- Ensure timely payment of salaries, wages, and allowances to staff and elected members in accordance with relevant regulations
- Prepare and validate payroll data, including variable hours, deductions, and statutory payments
- Maintain accurate employee records and process all changes such as new starts, leavers, and rate adjustments
- Manage pension records and ensure compliance with statutory guidelines
- Handle payroll-related enquiries efficiently and professionally
- Assist in preparing statutory returns and manage real-time information submissions to HMRC
- Support payroll system updates, participate in process improvements, and contribute to policy documentation
- Be ready to adapt and respond to urgent payroll matters, including error investigation and urgent payments
