The Opportunity as Strategic Project Buyer


A leading engineering and manufacturing business is seeking a Strategic Project Buyer to support new product introduction and drive effective sourcing strategies from concept through to production. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, procurement, and operations, ensuring cost-effective and reliable supply solutions.


Key Responsibilities as Strategic Project Buyer


  • Lead procurement activities across NPI and industrialisation projects
  • Integrate sourcing strategies with engineering and production requirements
  • Manage RFQs, supplier selection, and commercial negotiations
  • Ensure availability of materials and components to meet project timelines
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Operations on DFM/DFA and technical alignment
  • Support supplier audits, qualification, and performance reviews
  • Drive cost reduction and value engineering initiatives
  • Maintain procurement data, contracts, and project documentation
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure quality, delivery, and cost targets are met
  • Support smooth transition from project phase into serial production


Skills & Experience as Strategic Project Buyer


  • Experience in a strategic or project-based buying role within engineering/manufacturing
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chains
  • Experience with ERP systems and data analysis
  • Effective stakeholder and supplier management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Professional qualification (e.g. CIPS) desirable
  • Exposure to NPI or industrialisation processes beneficial
  • Knowledge of lean or continuous improvement methods advantageous
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers as required
