Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer

Key Purpose
- Design and specify all aspects of Mechanical Building Services in accordance with current standards, guidelines, regulations, and project requirements.
- Support and mentor our Early Careers population, contributing to continuous improvement of departmental capability.
- Manage Mechanical Services involvement on small to medium‑size projects, including time, cost, quality, delivery, and client relationships.
- Champion quality, compliance, and best practice across projects and local teams.
Responsibilities
- Deliver Mechanical Building Services design and consultancy services under the direction of a line manager or project lead.
- Produce high‑quality design deliverables, including calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Undertake site surveys and support construction‑stage activities.
- Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and members of multi‑disciplinary design and construction teams.
- Check calculations and detailed designs to ensure compliance with project briefs, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to bids, proposals, tender reviews, fee estimates, scopes of work, and change control activities.
- Support project management activities, including programme delivery and cost control.
- Ensure compliance with BakerHicks’ quality management systems and engineering best practice.
- Line manage and technically oversee Engineers, Technicians, and Early Careers staff as required.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
- Membership of CIBSE, working toward Chartered Member status.
- Strong experience in the design of Mechanical Building Services systems, including HVAC and Public Health.
- Considerable experience in technical design development and specification writing.
- Understanding of the commercial aspects of projects.
- Experience contributing to bids, proposals, and tender documentation.
- Proficiency in specialist software such as Navisworks, NBS Create / Chorus, IES Thermal Modelling, AutoCAD, and Revit.
- Experience delivering multi‑disciplinary projects across multiple sectors.
- Experience managing and mentoring small technical teams.
- Professional registration (CEng or IEng).
Security Requirements
