Overview

This is an exciting time to join the Integrated Commissioning Team at Plymouth City Council. Our team supports the commissioning of services for vulnerable adults, children and families in the city. We are a strong, inclusive and friendly team with a supportive, open and honest culture and a good work/life balance. We value opportunities to do things differently and are looking for someone who thrives in this environment.

This Commissioning Officer role is a fantastic opportunity to help shape and support the design and delivery of services. It also includes supporting the commissioning, contract monitoring and quality assurance of services which in turn improves outcomes for vulnerable children and their families.

You will be working within a varied portfolio of services. This role will focus primarily on services for vulnerable children, young people and their families, including early intervention and prevention services in the community as well as long-term support services. An understanding of Children’s Services and/or the Alternative Provision / SEND sector is desirable but not essential. The current strategic priorities include the Department for Education’s Family First Partnership, Advocacy arrangements and the national SEND Reform.

Support the design and delivery of services within a varied portfolio, with emphasis on early intervention, prevention and long-term support services for vulnerable children, young people and their families. Contribute to commissioning, contract monitoring and quality assurance to improve outcomes for service users. Engage with communities and contribute to co-production initiatives where appropriate. Apply data and insight to inform service improvements and decision-making. Collaborate with colleagues across Children’s Services, local authorities and health settings as relevant.

Excellent people skills with a commitment to improving services for vulnerable people. Experience in a similar role across a local authority or health setting is advantageous. A willingness to work in a hybrid environment and travel to visit local services (e.g., children’s homes and independent special schools) as required.
