AWS DevOps Engineer – Government Project (Public Sector)

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Location: Remote / UK Based

Clearance: Eligible for SC Clearance or Active SC Clearance Preferred

The Opportunity

A leading public sector programme is seeking an experienced AWS DevOps Engineer to join a high-profile government project focused on cloud transformation, infrastructure automation, and platform modernisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large-scale AWS environment supporting critical services used across the public sector. You will play a key role in building and maintaining scalable cloud infrastructure, improving CI/CD pipelines, and driving automation across engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and optimise AWS cloud infrastructure across secure environments
  • Design and manage CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps
  • Containerise applications using Docker and support Kubernetes environments
  • Work closely with development and platform teams to improve deployment reliability
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions
  • Support Infrastructure as Code best practices and DevOps ways of working
  • Ensure security and compliance standards are maintained across cloud environments

Required Skills & Experience

  • Hands‑on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps
  • Containerisation experience using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong scripting knowledge using Bash, Python, or PowerShell
  • Experience working within secure or regulated environments
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK
  • Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration skills
  • Previous government or public sector project experience
  • Experience working within SC‑cleared environments
  • Knowledge of serverless technologies or event‑driven architecture
  • Exposure to multi-account AWS environments and landing zones
