Overview
The role of a Sales Engineer is to drive revenue through supporting the sales cycle by overcoming technical hurdles and providing technical sales leadership during the pre‑sales phase of an opportunity. The position requires the ability to execute product demonstrations, architectural design and implement test pilots. Understanding how customers create, use, migrate, replicate, backup, restore and secure their databases will permit you to rapidly understand and explain the integration impact of Quest Information Systems Management products to an existing environment, and relate the value of the solutions to the business needs of the customers.
Responsibilities
- Actively participate in the sales process and work closely with the direct and channel sales teams
- Discover and understand customers desired business outcomes and align our solutions to those outcomes
- Present Quest Software business functions, value and competitive differences
- Provide product demonstrations to prospective customers
- Assist in developing RFP responses
- Participate in onsite and remote Proof of Concept evaluations
- Provide feedback to Product Management on product enhancements
- Act as a technical expert on all the components of the Quest ISM solutions and be the primary technical point of contact with the client during pre‑sales phase
- Keep abreast of new competitive products or service offerings and be able to move quickly to neutralize potential impact on Quest objectives
- Proactively seek to expand technical knowledge and supplement skills through the use of books, manuals, web, certified training centres and classroom training
- Establish and maintain relationships with clients, prospects and partners as well as internal team members
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience in customer facing position, professional experience as a pre‑sales technical resource in an enterprise software company desirable
- Alternatively, 10+ years professional experience within FSI, insurance, healthcare or utilities sectors with a thorough understanding of related business processes and common database platform challenges in these industry verticals
- Hands on experience as a DBA with Oracle is mandatory with additional SQL Server experience highly desirable
- Experience with Azure, AWS or similar cloud database offerings desirable
- Practical knowledge of alternative database platforms (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, DB2, etc) desirable
- Experience with solutions that address data dictionaries, data lakes/warehousing and business intelligence viewed favourably
- A working knowledge of technical infrastructure including application servers, databases, virtualization and directories is required
- Excellent written, presentation and verbal communications skills
Preferences
- Quest solutions are Microsoft centric therefore familiarity with .Net, VB, Active Directory, LDAP
- Experience with basic scripting such as PL/SQL, Powershell, Unix shell
- Experience in database performance tuning, monitoring with the use of specialised 3rd party tools such as Foglight, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Solarwinds, APM solutions
- Experience with database replication technologies such as SharePlex, Oracle Golden Gate, HVR, Qlik
