Principal Clinical Psychologist - Lead

This is an exciting opportunity to be the Principal Clinical Psychologist (Band 8b) within the Adult Acute Inpatient Service and High Dependency Rehabilitation Service as part of the First Response pathway.
The post involves working predominantly into a high dependency rehabilitation ward and PICU. You will join an established psychology team and work with two Consultant Clinical Psychologists, a Clinical Psychologist, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists. The team is established within Rehab services and is developing into acute care, providing opportunities to adapt the nature of the work to suit the interests and skills of the successful applicant.
Main duties of the job
As the Principal Clinical Psychologist you will provide clinical and professional leadership predominantly within the inpatient rehab service and the PICU ward in the West locality. Responsibilities include:
- Providing highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention, and input to care and treatment planning and discharge planning for individual patients, working as part of a multidisciplinary team and as an autonomous Clinical Psychologist.
- Offering staff support, facilitating reflective practice, formulation meetings and supporting staff in debriefing following incidents.
- Developing and maintaining a systematic, high‑quality, evidence‑based psychology service for patients accessing the First Response Service and the Rehabilitation Service in the locality.
- Working with Consultant Clinical Psychologist, locality leadership teams and specialty clinical networks to enhance and evaluate the psychological care offer provided by a multi‑professional workforce.
- Providing training, consultancy, supervision and support to multi‑professional staff, teams and managers.
- Providing placements for Trainee Clinical Psychologists in liaison with local DClinPsy training programmes.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Post‑graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
- HCPC Registered.
- Post‑doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
- BPS chartered status.
Knowledge and Expertise
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management requiring sustained concentration.
- Well‑developed communication skills, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive when sharing information with clients, families, carers and other professionals.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professionals and non‑professional groups.
- Well‑developed knowledge of the theory and practice of applied psychology and specialised psychological therapies for people with complex difficulties.
Experience
- Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist for several years.
- Involvement in local and/or national DCP and other professional activities.

£66,582 to £77,368 a year pro rata.
