Control Systems Engineer
Our client in Derby is recruiting an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join their team and contribute to bespoke automation projects in a medical industry manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop new control systems
- Program PLCs and HMIs (Rockwell / Mitsubishi)
- Work with software including Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, GX Works2, GT Designer 3, and Machine Edition
- Implement control systems software and associated equipment
- Support existing and legacy control systems and machinery
- Follow SOPs to ensure consistent and controlled software development
- Drive continuous improvement and maintain control systems, including PLCs and HMIs
- Upgrade existing equipment and integrate new automation solutions
- Develop functional, hardware, and software design specifications from user requirements
- Carry out FAT, SAT, and on-site commissioning (including worldwide travel where required)
- Produce detailed documentation including FDS, FAT reports, and user manuals
- Promote teamwork and contribute to a positive working culture
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, GMP, and health & safety regulations
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Undertake any additional tasks as required by the business
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years' experience in control systems or automation engineering
- Strong PLC programming experience, ideally with Rockwell / Allen Bradley systems
- Experience working within packaging machinery, special purpose machinery or similar engineering environments
- Proven track record in automation control for machinery projects
- Experience with motion control / servo systems (advantageous)
- Ability to produce clear and detailed technical documentation
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to travel for commissioning when required
