A local authority in Lancashire is seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to join their Environmental Health team on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to support a busy service dealing with a varied caseload of domestic environmental complaints.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing a case load of environmental protection matters, primarily focused on statutory nuisance and residential complaints.
Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating complaints relating to noise, odour, smoke, bonfires and other statutory nuisances
- Conducting site visits, evidence gathering and monitoring activities
- Determining statutory nuisance and taking appropriate enforcement action
- Serving abatement notices and preparing case files where required
- Liaising with residents, landlords and other stakeholders to resolve complaints
- Maintaining accurate records and case management systems
- Supporting the wider Environmental Health function as required
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience working within an Environmental Protection / Environmental Health team
- Strong working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990
- Experience handling domestic nuisance complaints from start to resolution
- Confidence in enforcement, including serving notices and evidencing cases
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload effectively
