You will be responsible for supporting the Buying Manager as a key member of the Canned Foods buying team, sourcing and buying great quality products and ensuring customers receive the best possible offer, range and prices.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Buying Manager to oversee supplier performance, identify potential new suppliers and help build strong, long term supplier relationships.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of a long term, customer led category plan that drives loyalty.
  • Conducting regular store and website visits, reviewing customer insight and food trends to help shape future product and range requirements.
  • Helping to build and source customer and market insight led ranges and product innovation.
  • Supporting supplier negotiations to improve the trading position in a sustainable and responsible way.
  • Supporting the delivery of the department’s trade, promotions and events plan, with a focus on exceeding KPI forecasts and driving footfall.
  • Supporting the Supply Chain Plan to ensure products are available in store on time.
  • Working closely with suppliers and the category quality team to ensure product quality is achieved and consistently maintained.
  • Adhering to all Tesco policies, storage and handover protocols, and completing all required training to ensure zero GSCOP breaches.
  • Ensuring all agreements are recorded in writing and reporting any GSCOP complaints to Legal within 48 hours of receipt.
  • Following the Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence.

Qualifications

  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Experience managing stakeholders and suppliers.
  • An understanding of buying, range management and trade planning.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and insights.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel to support buying and trading decisions.
  • Experience preparing reports and analysing performance to inform actions.
