About Ullapool Museum
Ullapool Museum tells the story of Lochbroom’s rich cultural and social history, housed within a beautiful Grade A listed building designed by Thomas Telford. As a community rooted heritage organisation, the museum is expanding its reach through new visitor markets, including cruise tourism and the wider travel trade sector. We are now seeking a proactive and commercially minded individual to help us grow and sustain new income streams.
Role Purpose
The Commercial Development Manager will lead on developing, managing, and growing Ullapool Museum’s commercial opportunities, with a particular focus on cruise tourism, travel trade partnerships, and other emerging income streams. The postholder will ensure that the museum maximises visitor engagement and revenue while maintaining high quality experiences aligned with our heritage values.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cruise Tourism Development
- Coordinate all cruise related activity, acting as the primary contact for cruise operators, shore excursion companies, and port agents.
- Develop and deliver tailored visitor experiences, including packages, Events, retail offers, and enhanced services for cruise passengers.
- Collect and analyse cruise visitor data to inform growth and improvements.
2. Travel Trade & Partnerships
- Proactively build relationships with tour operators, travel agents, destination management companies, and group travel organisers.
- Assist in developing trade ready products, packages, and pricing to attract group visits and bespoke tours.
- Represent Ullapool Museum at travel trade events, meetings, and networking opportunities.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of travel trade contacts and nurture ongoing partnerships.
3. Income Generation & Commercial Growth
- Identify and develop new commercial opportunities aligned with the museum’s mission (e.g., admissions, retail, events, experiences, venue hire).
- Work with the Museum Director to develop and implement a commercial strategy.
- Support improvements to the museum shop, online sales, and merchandising.
- Explore opportunities for grants or sponsorship that support commercial development activity.
Person Specification
- Experience in tourism, heritage, visitor attractions, travel trade, or commercial development.
- Strong communication and relationship building skills.
- Proven ability to coordinate projects and deliver high quality visitor experiences.
- A proactive, organised, and entrepreneurial approach to generating revenue.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or cruise days as required.
- Experience working with cruise tourism or group travel operators.
- Knowledge of the heritage sector or cultural tourism.
- Marketing or sales experience.
- Understanding of the local area and its cultural heritage.
