Funeral Service Manager
Salary: £34,000-£39,000 plus benefits
Full Time 37.5 hours – Working a variety of shifts Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm
Location: Edinburgh, EH16 5UY
Please note that the role involves direct physical contact with the deceased as part of normal duties. The amount of contact will differ depending on the specific responsibilities.
What you’ll do
- Lead and coach a team of funeral directors and arrangers across the region.
- Build strong, effective relationships with colleagues to drive a consistently high standard of service to clients.
- Inspire teams to achieve the highest possible standards of client care in line with business and commercial objectives.
- Analyse and review management information to spot opportunities and drive continuous improvement and consistency across the wider business.
- Take an active role in the community; build relationships with other Co‑op businesses and external organisations to promote services and bring communities together.
- Ensure certified colleagues are fully supported in maintaining required levels of competency for operating in a regulated environment.
- Ensure non‑certified colleagues operate within regulatory guidelines and processes.
- Manage resources across the area and provide funeral plan arrangement cover in homes lacking trained colleagues.
- Take responsibility for any client complaints and issues.
- Carry out inspections of funeral homes to ensure standards are met and premises remain immaculate, presentable, and compliant with risk, health and safety standards.
Skills and Qualifications
- Real commercial focus with the ability to spot opportunities and trends.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail to ensure regulatory policies and processes are always adhered to.
- Confidence communicating and presenting to all kinds of people.
- Ability to coach and mentor teams across multiple locations.
- Strong relationship building and customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally and sensitively with clients during a difficult time.
- Open-mindedness when working around and coming into contact with the deceased.
- Valid UK manual driving licence.
