Location: Perth, Scotland (Hybrid – 3 days on-site preferred)

Contract: 12 Months Initially

Rate: £650 per day Umbrella


Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Overhead Line Project Engineer to join a transmission project engineering team supporting the delivery of major infrastructure projects across the UK energy sector.


This role sits within the Project Engineering function, with a primary focus on AC Overhead Line systems. Candidates with experience working on 132kV and above transmission networks, within contractor, consultancy, or client-side environments, are encouraged to apply.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overhead line engineering support across 400kV, 275kV and 132kV projects throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Review contractor and consultant design proposals, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and industry guidance.
  • Undertake a project engineering role, ensuring governance processes are followed and engineering risks are effectively managed.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support successful project delivery.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for overhead line engineering at key project meetings.
  • Promote and manage safety through the application of CDM procedures, ensuring compliance with HSE and industry regulations.
  • Work closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to identify and mitigate engineering and quality risks.


Key Requirements

  • Strong technical background in overhead line development, design, or specification, or relevant transferable experience.
  • Experience working on transmission networks (132kV and above) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with overhead line design software such as PLS-CADD is advantageous.
  • Degree, HND or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proactive, problem-solving approach with strong analytical capability.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels.
