Location: London (near Liverpool Street)

Working Pattern: Full-time or part-time (3–4 days per week), hybrid (3 days office / 2 days WFH)

Role Overview

I am seeking an experienced US/UK Tax Senior Manager / Director to lead out the Private Client Services (PCS) US/UK offering at my client. This role will act as the technical lead across both jurisdictions, with primary responsibility for US tax matters, including final review and sign-off on returns.

The position offers a blend of compliance oversight, advisory work, and team leadership, supporting a diverse client base of primarily US individuals living in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Act as the UK/US Private Client technical lead
  • Oversee onboarding of new clients, including scoping and pricing of work
  • Provide technical guidance on cross-border UK/US tax matters
  • Act as a key point of contact for complex client queries and advisory matters

Compliance Oversight

  • Final review and sign-off on US and UK tax returns
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately:
  • 130 US returns
  • 160 UK returns within the US/UK team
  • Ensure high-quality delivery of US individual tax returns, including exposure to forms such as 5471
  • Prioritise US compliance work, with support available from the wider UK team

Team Management & Development

  • Lead and support a team of 9 (8 staff + 1 client support), including:
  • Coaching and development
  • Training and study support
  • Well-being and performance management
  • Provide closer oversight to junior team members while enabling more senior staff to operate independently
  • Work alongside the existing US/UK Tax Manager, supporting their progression into a signing role over time

Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Provide ongoing advisory support on:
  • Cross-border tax planning
  • Changes in personal circumstances
  • Deliver a high level of client service across a primarily individual client base

Team & Structure

The PCS team currently consists of:

  • US/UK Tax Director
  • US/UK Tax Manager
  • UK Corporate Tax Senior Manager
  • UK Tax Manager
  • UK Tax Assistant
  • Dedicated Client Support (Guildford-based)

The wider UK PCS team also manages an additional portfolio of approximately 350 UK-only returns.

Client Base

  • Predominantly US individuals residing in the UK
  • Smaller number of UK individuals based in the US
  • Typical clients include employees, retirees, and individuals with investment income

  • Approximately 25 professionals
  • Collaborative environment with strong support from wider UK tax teams
