Job Overview
Opportunity in the Integrated Disability Service (IDS) Team for a Head of Service to oversee the social care component of the service. The IDS service comprises two teams of social workers who carry out all statutory social work functions for people with complex needs relating to learning disability. The role is offered on a secondment basis for twelve months.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee principal managers responsible for the two social work teams, providing operational and social work practice advice.
- Manage the social care and staffing budget and ensure the performance of the service.
- Lead on development and improvement work in the service, driving change and development initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with health colleagues to improve outcomes for people we support and their carers.
- Ensure all work carried out by social work staff is compliant with statutory guidance and good practice.
- Authorise support plans, ensuring outcomes are met and the service provides value for money for commissioners.
- Support and direct staff on practice, including legal matters such as the Mental Capacity Act, and attend court when necessary.
- Develop and implement new ways of working to improve outcomes for people.
- Maintain staffing budget, supervision, appraisal and training of all staff.
- Represent the service on meetings with the Local Authority commissioner’s senior leadership team and contribute to governance structures, including contract meetings.
Qualifications
- Experience leading social work teams and managing operational budgets.
- Excellent knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and related statutory guidance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead on change and development initiatives.
- Experience supporting staff in practice and attending court would be helpful.
- Strong understanding of quality improvement and service delivery measurement.
