Head of Capital Solutions

Location: London or Bermuda (Hybrid)

Permanent

What if you could shape how a global insurer uses capital to support growth, resilience and underwriting flexibility?

QBE is creating a new Head of Capital Solutions role to lead the design, execution and scaling of capital solutions across the Group. This is a high‑impact opportunity to influence group‑level capital strategy, with a particular focus on expanding the use of third‑party capital.

You will play a pivotal role in the evolution of QBE’s Insurance‑LinkedSecurities (ILS) capability, building on recent transactions including catastrophe bonds issued through the Bridge Street Re programme and the George Street Re casualty sidecar. You will also be responsible for the management and execution of retrospective transactions such as loss portfolio transfers.

Combining strategic leadership with hands‑on delivery, the role offers end‑to‑end ownership of capital solutions activity and meaningful engagement with senior stakeholders, investors and regulators.

Having the right to work in this country is a requirement for this role. QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.

Your new role

As Head of Capital Solutions, you will provide analytical, strategic and policy leadership across group capital‑related initiatives, partnering closely with Group Finance and the wider business.

Your role will include:

  • Develop and execute QBE’s group‑wide capital solutions strategy, acting as a thought leader on innovative risk transfer solutions
  • Identify opportunities to deploy third‑party capital to support growth, reduce volatility, and optimise return on equity
  • Structure and manage ILS transactions, including catastrophe bonds and sidecars
  • Lead the design and execution of legacy solutions
  • Build and maintain relationships with ILS fund managers, investors, legacy insurers and service provider
  • End to end accountability for transaction execution, including structuring, negotiation, approvals, and completion
  • Coordinate cross‑functional teams across underwriting, finance, ceded reinsurance, actuarial, legal, tax, and operations
  • Ensure structures appropriately balance pricing, capital efficiency, operational complexity, and reputational/regulatory considerations
  • Oversee transaction economics, counterparty risk, collateralisation, and post‑transaction governance
  • Support stakeholder messaging on the use and benefits of alternative capital, with clear articulation of risk, reward, and capital implications
  • Ensure robust governance, documentation, and ongoing compliance across all transactions

About you

  • Strong technical understanding of ILS structures (including catastrophe bonds and sidecars) and legacy risk transfer
  • Demonstrated experience originating and executing complex, multi‑stakeholder transactions
  • Well‑established market relationships across reinsurers, ILS investors, brokers, banks or advisors
  • Sound commercial judgement, analytical capability and risk awareness
  • Credibility with senior executives, Boards and regulators
  • Knowledge of regulatory capital regimes and capital management best practices
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills
  • A professional actuarial, accounting or investment qualification is advantageous.
