West of/from London - Berkshire, Permanent
Senior FPGA Design Engineer
TUALCOM
Position Overview
Following rapid growth in the UK, we are now poised to strengthen our presence both domestically and internationally. We are seeking a senior FPGA Design Engineer to serve as a key technical authority and ambassador for TUALCOM in the UK. This role will play an integral part of the success of our new UK plant and involve designing and developing advanced FPGA solutions for TUALCOM’s cutting‑edge Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) products.
What You Will Do
Reporting to our Technical Director, you will work on next‑generation technologies in the aerospace and defense industry, contributing critical systems that integrate data communication protocols and advanced signal‑processing algorithms. This is an excellent opportunity for an FPGA engineer with expertise in high‑speed design and a passion for real‑time system development.
You will be:
- Designing, developing, and implementing FPGA blocks for TUALCOM’s cutting‑edge PNT solutions, leveraging Kalman filters for sensor fusion.
- Performing hardware‑level verification and validation of FPGA designs to ensure functionality and reliability.
- Utilizing HDL (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog) for FPGA design and working with industry‑leading simulation tools such as Vivado, ModelSim, and QuestaSim.
- Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to integrate communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, AXI) into FPGA‑based systems.
- Engaging in signal‑processing tasks such as FIR filtering and FFT, ensuring optimized performance for real‑time applications.
- Developing high‑speed digital circuits that meet the performance and reliability requirements for PNT systems.
What We Require From You
We are looking for a design engineer with proven experience in FPGA design, implementation, and verification, ideally educated to a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- Proficiency in hardware description languages (HDL): VHDL, Verilog, and SystemVerilog.
- Strong knowledge of FPGA verification methodologies, including UVM (Universal Verification Methodology).
- Knowledge of high‑speed digital design and signal‑processing algorithms (FIR filtering, FFT).
- Familiarity with FPGA design and simulation tools: Vivado, ModelSim, QuestaSim, and others.
- Experience with data communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, AXI, etc., and their implementation on FPGAs.
- Experience debugging FPGA designs using tools such as ILA (Integrated Logic Analyzer) and VIO (Virtual Input/Output).
- Familiarity with microprocessors and SOCs (e.g., Microblaze, Zynq) is a plus.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using TCL/TK and other scripting languages is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of design tasks and verification activities.
Experience in aerospace, defense, or related industries working with PNT systems is a bonus, as is familiarity with FPGA‑based sensor fusion applications.
