Job Title: Associate Professor in Project Controls
Location: Office-based with flexible home working
(Candidates must reside within a 30-mile radius of the office)
Contract Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Performance & Academic Bonuses:
- £2,000 per paper published in a 4★ journal or REF accepted case study 4★
- £1,000 per paper published in a 3★ journal or REF accepted case study 3★
- £1,000 per high-quality peer‑reviewed book published
About the Role
We are seeking an ambitious and academically driven Associate Professor in Project Controls to join our growing team. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about teaching, research, and professional practice, and who are committed to developing the next generation of project control professionals.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high‑quality teaching, mentoring apprentices, and contributing to the College’s research output and academic reputation.
This is a practice‑led academic role, combining structured teaching with coaching, industry engagement, and research publication.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning Delivery
- Deliver approximately 6–8 hours of teaching per week in project controls and related disciplines
- Facilitate engaging and interactive classroom sessions aligned with apprenticeship standards and professional bodies
- Deliver structured lessons covering topics such as cost control, scheduling, risk management, and earned value management
2. Coaching, Mentoring and Learner Support
- Provide coaching and mentoring support to a caseload of approximately 55 learners
- Conduct regular one‑to‑one progress reviews and support learners in achieving their academic and professional goals
- Support learners in preparing for End Point Assessment (EPA) and professional certifications
3. Curriculum Development and Academic Content
- Develop and continuously improve teaching materials, including lesson plans, case studies, and assessments
- Ensure content reflects current industry practice and aligns with professional standards such as:
- Project Management Institute
- APMG International
- AXELOS
4. Research and Publication
- Actively contribute to academic research and publishing in recognised journals such as:
- International Journal of Project Management
- Project Management Journal
- Produce high‑quality publications that enhance the College’s academic profile
- Contribute to the development of textbooks, professional handbooks, and learning resources
5. Administration and Academic Duties
- Maintain accurate learner records and compliance documentation
- Participate in internal meetings, quality assurance processes, and Ofsted‑related activities
- Support induction sessions and learner onboarding
Typical Working Day (Indicative Structure)
A typical working day will include:
- 2 hours – Teaching / classroom delivery
- 2 hours – Preparation and material development
- 3 hours – Coaching, mentoring, inductions, and learner support
- 1 hour – Administration, research, and academic publishing

Person Specification
- PhD in Project Controls (or near completion)
- Strong knowledge of project control disciplines (cost, schedule, risk, EVM)
- Experience or strong interest in teaching, coaching, or mentoring
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple learners and responsibilities effectively
- Experience working in project controls within industry
- Publications in recognised academic journals
- Experience with apprenticeship delivery or professional training
- Familiarity with UK education and compliance frameworks
- Teaching and facilitation skills
- Academic writing and research capability
- Stakeholder and learner engagement
- Organisation and time management
