Welsh Paediatric Surveillance Unit (WPSU) Clinical Lead
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated consultant to join us as our Clinical Lead for the Welsh Paediatric Surveillance Unit (WPSU) based in Public Health Wales (PHW) NHS Trust.
The Clinical Lead will provide collaborative leadership to support the Public Health consultant and WPSU team to deliver work, advise on clinical matters, and strengthen clinical links to ensure and improve the quality of our surveillance data. The Clinical Lead will also have opportunities to forge academic collaborations, lead or contribute to academic projects, and support students and trainees on placement.
The Consultant Lead must already be in a substantive AAC appointed post within the NHS in Wales in a clinical specialty relevant to the work of the WPSU (for example Paediatrics). The Clinical Lead must have permission from their substantive employer to dedicate 1 session per week to WPSU work (for which PHW will re‑imburse the substantive employer). This weekly session for PHW must be included in the consultant’s agreed job plan (undertaken with their substantive employer) and acknowledged as part of their whole-practice appraisal.
Candidates must hold GMC registration and be licensed to practice.
Main duties of the job
The WPSU is based in PHW, and mainly functions remotely. Therefore, the Clinical Lead would be able to undertake almost all duties remotely, for example dialling into WPSU meetings from their usual place of work. The role is open to any consultant meeting the person specification requirements in Wales, however, will require some travel to the base office and other PHW/NHS locations when required. There will also be flexibility to undertake work from other PHW locations across Wales and remotely in keeping with PHW policies and job planning agreement with the substantive employer.
Working on the WPSU outputs, including the annual report and specific projects as required
Planning and organising twice yearly steering group meetings with administrative support from the WPSU team
Supporting the Consultant in Public Health Medicine and other team members as appropriate
Attending regular team meetings, and ad hoc meetings as required
Provide academic support to the team and our academic colleagues
Provide clinical knowledge to the WPSU team and/or wider project colleagues as required
Potentially use the WPSU distribution to communicate clinical alerts as required and deemed clinically appropriate to do so
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
