Join our Radiology team as a key first point of contact for patients and visitors attending the X-ray department. This fast‑paced, patient‑focused role requires you to rotate across several areas, including main reception, ultrasound, Cauldwell, and the CDC (North Wing), to ensure every patient receives a warm welcome and a well‑coordinated experience.

You will use core Radiology information systems (CRIS/PIMS) accurately and confidently, helping to maintain the smooth flow of essential clinical information. Collaboration is central to this role, as you will work closely with medical, technical, and administrative colleagues to support the efficient delivery of imaging services.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients on arrival, providing clear directions to the appropriate waiting area and handling queries sensitively and discreetly, both in person and by telephone.
• Advise patients on preparation requirements for imaging studies, including when changing is necessary, and offer assistance as needed.
• Use flexible communication skills to overcome barriers to understanding; refer to clinical staff when appropriate.
• Manage situations involving distressed, unwell, or aggressive patients and relatives with professionalism and empathy.
• Check referral details and personal information with patients on arrival, entering new data or updating existing records in CRIS/PIMS with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Assess baseline requirements on imaging requests, ensuring correct patient and clinical information and confirming the appropriateness of the referral.
• Use initiative, within departmental protocols, to evaluate non‑routine requests and provide basic clinical guidance where required.
• Monitor patient waiting times proactively, ensuring appointment sessions are fully utilised and preventing breaches of waiting‑list targets.
• Identify potential issues early and escalade them to the manager with suggested solutions to support smooth and efficient service delivery.

The trust provides services to a growing population of around 700,000 people across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas, operating two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. As part of a high‑performing Trust, you will have access to a programme of high‑quality training and development.
