Our experienced engineering teams support the whole asset life cycle through design, construction, inspection, assessment and maintenance. We take pride in the excellent delivery for our clients, with our award‑winning contracts being recognised throughout the industry.

This role is to lead highway structures projects, working within a multidisciplinary consultancy and interfacing with stakeholders, to develop sustainable engineering solutions to budget and programme aligned with client expectations.

This is an opportunity to develop your career within a highly experienced bridge engineering team. Ideal for someone looking to take the next step into a Senior, Lead Senior or Principal Bridge Engineer position, based on previous experiences.

Stafford Design Hub

Since 2014, our Infrastructure Plus contract with Staffordshire County Council has maintained Staffordshire’s highway asset comprising 6.200km of road, with an appropriate annual budget of £80 million.

The structures team maintains critical infrastructure valued at £2 billion, comprising over 1,200 bridges, dams and other specialist structures. Schemes delivered range from multimillion‑pound bypasses such as Stafford Western Access Route, new bridge design, structures replacement, maintenance and assessment. We also work proactively with other infrastructure owners and developers to optimise road space and ensure appropriate technical solutions are implemented.

  • Oversee the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and take responsibility for their actions.
  • Contribute to the professional development of junior staff and act as a Delegated Engineer.
  • Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings, and respond to queries.
  • Manage a small, locally based single discipline technical team and take responsibility for delivery of their workload.
  • Contribute to the preparation of bids and general work‑winning function.
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.

  • Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management, and ensures own deliverables align with deliverables produced by other disciplines.
  • Incorporated/Chartered status or working towards chartership with the ICE or IstructE, or an equivalent professional licence gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts.
