The College

Lincoln College is a medium‑size college housed in attractive medieval buildings in the centre of the city, on Turl Street. The college has 50 Fellows, around 600 students, equally divided between graduates and undergraduates, and a large body of administrative and domestic staff. The Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Network and Infrastructure Officer to provide expert hands‑on support of the college’s various network assets. The individual will be responsible for the college’s firewalls and switches, setting up and maintaining physical and virtual servers, other networking equipment, and other essential systems. This includes managing equipment housed throughout the college’s facilities. The role is key to ensuring the college’s IT systems run smoothly as its infrastructure continues to evolve. Over the years, the college’s network has expanded across multiple buildings, requiring dedicated attention to keep everything functioning efficiently. A new role has been created to meet the rising demand for reliable IT services and to manage the increasingly complex infrastructure.

Duties

Planning – Plan improvements to the network to ensure that the network is able to support current and future demands placed on it.

Managing college firewalls – Manage all aspects of the firewalls, including security rules, device updates, VPN, VLANs, and monitoring for intrusions.

Network – Maintain the network infrastructure, monitor the performance of the various network assets, ensure hardware is maintained and all switches are running latest software.

Document – Gather and review IT systems requirements and document highly technical work.

Wireless networks – Monitor and support local and University‑wide WiFi connections. Install and support Wireless Access Points as required.

Disaster recovery procedures – In partnership with the Head of IT, construct and document disaster recovery procedures for the college’s infrastructure and ensure those procedures are up to date. Test disaster recovery procedures periodically.

Additional Duties

Management

The Head of IT. In the absence of the Head of IT, the Network and Infrastructure Officer may be required to temporarily take on some of the responsibilities of that post.

Documentation

Together with the Head of IT and IT Officer the post holder will maintain clear notes and guides on the running of the college IT infrastructure.
