Senior Financial Accountant

Full‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term contract. Hybrid working – Bristol office once per week.

The Role

Senior Financial Accountant sits within the Financial Control team as part of the Bupa Dental Care Finance function. The role manages the Bupa Dental balance sheet, cash flow and month‑end submission process. Supports external and internal audits, statutory account preparation and works closely with the Bupa Tax team on corporation tax and VAT matters. Provides professional oversight, advice and guidance to two Financial Accountants.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver the month‑end close in line with agreed timelines, including management of the balance sheet, cash flow, IFRS submissions and Solvency II quarterly requirements.
  • Ensure all actuals are accurately reported in Oracle and fully reconciled to Tagetik.
  • Ensure leases are correctly accounted for under IFRS 16.
  • Review, challenge and provide professional guidance to two Financial Accountants.
  • Prepare, reconcile and review balance sheet accounts, following up on any issues or queries.
  • Support the year‑end audit, acting as a key contact for external auditors and providing a consolidated trial balance.
  • Ensure statutory accounts for all Group entities are completed in line with FRS 102, accurately and on time.
  • Liaise with the Bupa Tax team on corporation tax and VAT matters.
  • Support the maintenance and ongoing enhancement of the internal control framework.
  • Ensure Capex and fixed assets are accounted for in line with accounting standards, maintaining the integrity of the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Provide ad‑hoc support to the Finance Manager – Financial Reporting and contribute to wider strategic projects, including new general ledger implementation and legal entity rationalisation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA).
  • Strong technical accounting background with hands‑on IFRS 16 experience (essential).
  • Experience of group consolidated reporting in a complex environment.
  • Exposure to group reporting systems (Oracle and Tagetik desirable).
  • Experience coaching and mentoring colleagues, providing guidance and challenge where needed.
  • Proactive, with a can‑do, solutions‑focused mindset.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Confident communicator, able to explain complex financial information clearly.
