Credit Controller
Location: Sittingbourne Contract: Full-time, permanent Salary: Competitive (DOE)
Reed are supporting a Sittingbourne client in the search for an experienced Credit Controller to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and detail‑focused individual to take ownership of accounts receivable and play a key role in maintaining strong cash flow.
The Role
As Credit Controller, you will be responsible for managing customer accounts, ensuring timely payment, and building effective working relationships both internally and externally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and managing accounts receivable to ensure prompt collection of outstanding balances
- Chasing overdue invoices via telephone and email, following internal procedures
- Sending regular payment reminders and follow‑up communications
- Investigating and resolving unallocated payments, queries, and debit notes
- Escalating potential bad debts and significant account issues to senior team members
- Supporting actions relating to debts over 60 days old
- Reviewing customer creditworthiness and setting appropriate credit limits and terms
- Negotiating payment plans where required
- Posting and accurately allocating bank receipts
- Reconciling customer accounts and resolving discrepancies promptly
- Maintaining up‑to‑date and accurate customer account records
- Completing bank and payment provider reconciliations
- Managing and reviewing the credit hold list daily
- Providing ad‑hoc and administrative support to the wider accounts team when needed
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Proven experience in a Credit Controller role or similar finance position
- Strong knowledge of credit control processes and financial reporting
- An understanding of credit checking and customer creditworthiness
- Experience dealing with customer debit notes
- Excellent accuracy, numeracy skills, and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A proactive approach with the ability to use initiative
- The confidence to work independently following initial training
- A collaborative, team‑focused attitude
- Competency using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
