About Yorkshire Water
Our purpose is simple: to create a better life for people and the planet. We supply water and wastewater services to over 5 million customers and manage a vast asset base across Yorkshire. We are transforming how we build, operate, manage and plan our assets, investing in capability, digital innovation, and long‑term resilience.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Strategic Asset Manager to play a leading role in our Strategic Asset Management function. This is a high‑impact leadership role, responsible for helping to shape how asset management is governed, improved and embedded across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Shape and lead the organisation’s asset management governance framework, defining and maintaining clear ownership, accountability and oversight for key asset management activities. This includes strengthening governance forums, assurance mechanisms and decision‑making pathways so that asset management decisions, actions and improvements are visible, controlled and fully traceable.
- Own and continually evolve the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), ensuring it remains aligned with organisational objectives, regulatory expectations and recognised good practice, including ISO 55000. You will ensure there is a clear line of sight between strategy, asset management priorities, investment decisions and outcomes, enabling the business to demonstrate how asset management delivers customer, resilience, environmental and value benefits.
- Provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge across water and wastewater asset management, promoting consistency, system integrity and shared standards. Working with senior stakeholders and delivery teams, you will ensure asset management approaches remain coherent across the organisation and that risk‑based decision making is applied consistently.
- Strengthen asset management capability and maturity across the business, identifying and coordinating improvement activity that enhances governance, process clarity and organisational readiness over time. This includes embedding best practice, supporting process owners and functional teams, and building understanding of their role in effective asset management and continual improvement.
- Champion insight‑led and risk‑based decision making, driving the effective use of asset data, analytics, modelling and digital tools to improve visibility of risk, performance and trade‑offs. You will support the development of long‑term strategies and investment approaches that balance cost, risk, performance, resilience and environmental outcomes.
- Lead and contribute to high quality regulatory submissions and external reporting, including PR29, ensuring asset management content is coherent, evidence‑based and aligned with the wider organisational narrative. You will help ensure the business can clearly articulate its asset management intent, maturity and investment rationale to regulators and other external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in asset management within a utility, regulated industry or infrastructure organisation.
- Strong applied understanding of ISO 55000 principles and experience of embedding them within organisational practice.
- Experience of shaping strategic asset management frameworks, governance arrangements, long‑term planning and improvement activity.
- Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, risk‑based decision‑making and the use of information to support strategic recommendations.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to work across organisational boundaries and bring people together around a shared direction.
- Ability to analyse complex issues and translate them into clear, practical and strategic recommendations.
Additional qualifications
- Experience in the water sector or another highly regulated asset‑intensive environment.
- Experience of developing and embedding strategic planning artefacts such as a Strategic Asset Management Plan, policy framework or organisational improvement roadmap.
- Experience with asset modelling, reliability engineering, or long‑term strategic planning.
- Professional membership of a relevant institution such as IAM, CIWEM, ICE, IMechE.
Benefits of the role
- Opportunity to shape the future of strategic asset management at Yorkshire Water.
- A high‑impact role with exposure to senior leaders, strategic governance and regulatory activity.
- The chance to influence how Yorkshire Water governs, improves and applies asset management across the organisation.
- Professional development and support for further accreditation.
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
