Overview

The Medical Infusion suite is looking for one Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse within the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals (SWBH) NHS Trust to ensure high-quality patient care by providing clinical leadership, managing daily operations, overseeing patient treatments, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assume delegated responsibility from the Ward/Departmental Manager in managing the ward team. Developing competence in the management of sickness absence, recruitment and performance management.
  • Accept daily managerial responsibility of ward/department during span of duty in the absence of the Ward/Department Manager.
  • Coordinate nursing activity within the clinical setting, ensuring that there is an appropriate skill mix for the patient caseload within available resources.
  • Using professional judgement ensure optimal bed usage/patient throughput at all times, facilitating timely admission and discharge of patients.
  • Ensure the economical use of all ward resources, order stock items for clinical area resolving any shortfall as appropriate, with defined limits of authority.
  • To resolve local problems/conflicts, keeping Ward/Department Manager informed and maintaining post team dynamics at all times.
  • Take delegated charge of the ward/department and co-ordinate activities efficiently and effectively in the ward manager’s absence.
  • Supervise junior staff throughout a shift, prioritising and delegating as appropriate.
  • Recognise and manage any complaints from patients/ carers.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with NMC registration.
  • Significant clinical experience.
  • Proficiency in IV therapy.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
