Mental Health Practitioner | University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust

We are excited to recruit a thoughtful, compassionate Mental Health Practitioner to join our committed and supportive multidisciplinary team within the NHS Children and Young People Gender Service (South West) (CYPGS SW).

As part of this team you will provide specialist assessments and contribute to the evolving evidence base for gender care. The service offers high‑quality clinical space for face‑to‑face and remote appointments, outreach clinics in Devon and Cardiff, and a hybrid working option for clinicians outside the Bristol area.

Responsibilities

• Offer clinical work consistent with the Cass Review and the 2026 Service Specification for CYP Gender Services.
• Provide psychological assessments and organise complex clinical information into clear case formulations.
• Analyse, synthesise and summarise large amounts of clinical information.
• Deliver therapy training (e.g. CBT, family therapy) and support clients in the CYP Gender Service.
• Provide evidence‑based and culturally appropriate interventions with carers or families of referred clients when required.
• Assess and monitor risk and develop appropriate risk‑management plans in liaison with safeguarding and senior professionals.
• Initiate, plan and review care plans with CYP with low to medium complexity, including liaison with local services.
• Contribute to the effective working of the CYP Gender Service – South West and to a psychologically informed holistic care framework.
• Deliver accessible and acceptable services.
• Liaise with referrers, health, education and social care professionals to develop and review care plans.

Training & Development

CPD is highly valued with weekly clinical development meetings and external training, including team away days and specialist training days such as ACT.
