Clinical Educator plays a pivotal role inensuring the safe, effective, and high-quality education of medical studentswithin paediatrics. Acting as the educational lead for allocated programmes,the postholder designs, delivers, and evaluates teaching across a range ofclinical and classroom settings, using expertise in curriculum planning,simulation, and clinical practice. By supporting students in the acquisition ofessential clinical, communication, and reasoning skills, the educatorsafeguards patient safety, ensuring that learners are competent andappropriately supervised when engaging with children and families. The rolealso has a strong pastoral component, guiding students through challenges andescalating concerns where professionalism or wellbeing may impact on safepractice. In addition, the educator contributes to educational governance,aligning local teaching with GMC standards and national policy, whilenetworking with senior clinicians to embed education into daily practice.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Educator will lead, plan, anddeliver high-quality education for medical students within paediatrics,ensuring that teaching aligns with University curricula and Trust standards.They will design and facilitate learning through bedside teaching, simulation,clinical skills sessions, and classroom-based teaching, adapting methods tomeet diverse learner needs. The postholder will act as the main point ofcontact for students during placements, providing supervision, feedback, andsupport to ensure clinical competence is achieved safely. They will monitorlearner progress, conduct assessments, and elevate concerns regardingprofessionalism or fitness to practice where required, safeguarding bothpatients and students. In addition, the educator will provide pastoral support,helping students navigate academic and personal challenges that may affecttheir learning. They will contribute to educational governance, evaluatelearner feedback, and implement improvements to enhance the quality of the studentexperience. The role also involves close collaboration with senior clinicians,medical schools, and training bodies to integrate education into clinicalpractice.

Collaborate with senior clinicians and multidisciplinaryteams to integrate teaching into everyday care.

Drive continuous improvement by evaluating learnerfeedback and shaping future programmes.

Empower students to become doctorswho are confident in their approach to children and young people in anyspeciality or department as well as inspiring students to consider pursuing acareer in paediatrics.
