Job Title:Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic building services consultancy in Nottingham. This is a senior-level position offering genuine involvement in technically varied and high-profile projects across multiple sectors.
You will be responsible for leading the mechanical design of building services schemes from feasibility and concept through to detailed design, specification, and construction support. The role demands both technical depth and client-facing confidence, and offers scope for progression within a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of building services installations across a variety of project types and sectors
- Produce detailed design drawings using Revit (BIM)
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations
- Undertake ductwork and pipework sizing, pump and fan selections
- Prepare specifications, design reports, and technical submissions
- Manage projects through RIBA stages, coordinating with clients, architects, and contractors
- Attend design team and client meetings; provide technical advice and design leadership
- Mentor junior engineers and support their development
- Ensure designs comply with current UK Building Regulations, Part L, and relevant CIBSE guidance
- Contribute to sustainable, energy-efficient design solutions including low carbon technologies

Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' UK-based building services mechanical design experience
- Strong mechanical design background (HVAC, heating, ventilation, cooling, plumbing, drainage)
- Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of IES desirable
- Experience with heating/cooling load calculations and system sizing
- Confident using industry-standard software and Excel for engineering calculations
- Solid understanding of UK Building Regulations, Part L, and CIBSE guidance
- Experience across multiple building sectors
- Strong communication and report-writing skills
- Degree or HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status (CIBSE / CEng) desirable
