We are currently supporting our client with recruitment for the following role:
Senior Design Engineer (Full Time, Permanent)
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Design Engineer for our client. This role involves leading the delivery of high‑quality temporary and permanent works designs, managing client relationships and supporting the continued development of our client's engineering capability. The ideal candidate will be technically strong, commercially aware and confident in guiding both clients and junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of temporary and permanent works designs, including site visits, surveys, drawings, calculations, and reports.
- Manage workload effectively to deliver high‑quality designs on time and within budget.
- Prepare fee proposals, communicate hourly rates, and agree variations as project requirements evolve.
- Provide cost‑effective design solutions and clear technical advice to clients, maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Review and check design work produced by others to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance with standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues and Directors to prioritise work and support project delivery.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, contributing to their development and the wider team’s capability.
- Maintain accurate timesheet records and comply with company procedures, including document control, QA, Health & Safety, and CDM regulations.
- Support business development by identifying opportunities and maintaining relationships with new and existing clients.
- Drive continuous improvement by developing standard solutions, enhancing design tools, and contributing to improved processes, software, and working methods.
- Maintain up‑to‑date CPD and attend relevant training to support ongoing professional growth.
Key Requirements
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Chartered or working toward Chartered status (ICE, IStructE, or similar).
- Minimum 5 years’ UK Temporary Works design experience across a broad range of structures and scenarios.
- Excellent understanding of design standards, CDM regulations and Health & Safety requirements.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and budgets.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present solutions clearly to clients and stakeholders.
- Experience reviewing and checking design work produced by others.
- Commercial awareness, including fee proposals, variations, and client management.
- Ability to mentor and support junior engineers.
- A proactive approach to professional development and continuous improvement.
- Full UK driving licence (for site visits and client meetings).
- Right to work in the UK (Sponsorship not required)
