Consultant Radiologist in Vascular/GIGU Interventional Imaging

This consultant post is within Imaging, Clinical Support & Imaging Services Clinical Management Group (CSI CMG). The new post holder will join an established team of vascular and GI/GU interventional radiologists and work closely with colleagues to support the development of imaging services across UHL. The role requires whole‑time commitment; flexibility may be discussed on a personal basis.

Job responsibilities

  • Support and develop both GI and vascular interventional services with existing colleagues.
  • Provide elective and emergency imaging services, including IP Hub, in collaboration with Imaging teams.
  • Develop and enhance sub‑specialty interests in GI and vascular intervention to meet patient needs.
  • Supervise junior medical staff, specialist registrars, radiographer specialists, and sonographers.
  • Contribute to Aortic and GIGU multidisciplinary team meetings and other relevant MDTs.
  • Take part in audit, research, teaching, and administrative duties.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota within UHL.
  • Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical governance activities.
  • Support and participate in research opportunities and publish findings.

Person Specification & Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent, Full GMC registration.
  • Fully accredited for Higher Specialist Training or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of interview.
  • FRCR or equivalent; membership of relevant specialist societies or associations.
  • Subspecialty fellowship and European Board of Interventional Radiology accreditation.
  • Fully trained in general radiology with specialist training in GIGU and vascular intervention.
  • High standard of diagnostic skills, especially in vascular and GI/GU imaging.
  • Trained in acute reporting for ED department.
  • Proficient IT skills commensurate with senior medical staff.
  • Evidence of clinical or research commitment, including publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English; empathy and teamwork.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload, lead audits, and participate in quality improvement programmes.
  • Understanding of clinical governance, service development, and the wider NHS agenda.
