Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Location: City Hall BS1 5TR

Hybrid: Up to 2 days in office

Start: Immediate, 12-month assignment

The role

We are recruiting for a Business Support Officer to provide high‑quality administrative and business support services across Bristol City Council.

You will support internal teams and external customers, manage day‑to‑day operational tasks, handle enquiries, process financial transactions and help improve internal systems and processes.

This is a varied role suited to someone organised, proactive and confident working in a fast‑paced environment.

Key accountabilities

  • Provide business support across one or more service areas
  • Handle customer and stakeholder enquiries, resolving issues where possible
  • Prepare, maintain and process documents and records
  • Process, monitor and reconcile financial transactions
  • Support service delivery in line with policies and legislation
  • Identify and support process improvements
  • Manage escalated administrative issues
  • Maintain accurate records and data
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies

Requirements/key criteria

  • Experience in business support or administration
  • Knowledge of business support systems and procedures
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure
  • Good problem‑solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Commitment to high standards of customer service
