Responsibilities
- Assist the Collections Supervisors and Management team in delivering the waste collections service, standing in during the Supervisor’s absence
- Ensure all staff follow health and safety procedures, conduct regular field inspections and report any incidents or defects
- Coach and support operatives to work safely, setting a standard by leading by example
- Ensure all resources are safe, clean and operational; investigate and report any accidents
- Assist with staff scheduling, training and liaise with client waste officers
- Liaise with the Contract Management team and other departments regarding service issues and implement improvements
- Manage and control sickness/absence levels, taking remedial action when necessary
- Ensure fleet cleanliness, investigate and report accidents or damage
- Identify where additional training is required and recognise opportunities for operatives to develop further in the company
- Use operational software systems for service and vehicle compliance and safety reporting
- Engage with staff across the contract, promote safety meetings and participate actively
Qualifications
- DCPC and LGV licence (Class C)
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal
- Ability to conduct risk assessments with accuracy and compliance understanding
- Team working capabilities and creative problem‑solving skills
- Knowledge of fleet and traffic compliance and health and safety legislation
- Experience in work planning and allocation using computer systems
- Operational knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance
- Ability to work independently with flexibility and adaptability
- Ability to build strong relationships and deal effectively with people at different levels
- Professional, proactive approach with a keenness for personal development
- Very strong IT skills for multiple software packages (desirable)
- Previous experience in a highly regulated industry (desirable)
- Experience leading a team of people (desirable)
