As a result, alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the Engineering Manager and Pre‑Construction Managers to provide input to the overall design strategy and workload management;
- Supporting the delivery teams, verifying the work of others in a timely and efficient manner, and providing expert technical support;
- Providing integration planning of methods, permanent and temporary works with multidisciplinary project delivery teams;
- Ensuring design risks are considered and preparing design risk assessments. Communicating residual design risks to others;
- Leading design assurance on projects through conducting regular review meetings with project teams, identifying best practice, areas for improvement and areas of concern;
- Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant technical consultants and suppliers;
- Promoting the development of BIM within the design process;
- Supporting the Engineering Manager in ensuring that learning and best practice is shared across the business stream and the business as a whole;
- Maintaining personal expertise and knowledge to ensure that project engineering is at the forefront of the industry both technically and in using the latest technologies and standards;
- Carrying out technical audits in the office and site and ensuring all actions are closed out;
- Conforming to designer obligations of the Construction (Design and Management) regulations.
Who we’re looking for
- Have a recognised professional qualification (MICE or MIStructE) and a valid CSCS card;
- Have extensive up‑to‑date technical knowledge of temporary works design and ground engineering and industry best practice;
- Be focussed and thorough, with gravitas and professional credibility to advise senior management when something needs immediate redress, together with the tenacity and drive to ensure that the necessary action is taken;
- Be a subject matter expert with a good understanding in other areas of the engineering field;
- Hold a good working knowledge of mechanical, structural and geotechnical engineering and related software packages; BIM is required;
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners and delivery team members under time pressure;
- Be customer‑centric and flexible in approach, with strategic and creative insight to understand the range of opportunities in invitations to tender and be willing to challenge the norm;
- Know what good looks like in submissions and have hands‑on experience of leading technical aspects in a timely manner;
- Have a desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on the customer requirements.
