Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Principal/Associate Electrical Engineer with a background in healthcare projects to join our London team. The role involves leading the mechanical design for large, complex healthcare projects.
Responsibilities
- Work in a joint leadership capacity within a mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) discipline team, providing design and technical advice in a WSP project manager capacity on a wide range of projects.
- Supervise completion of detailed designs and oversee the work of others.
- Consider feasibility and lead overall feasibility studies.
- Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed/performance specifications.
- Act as the client’s key point of contact and be responsible for overall project delivery in terms of client deliverables and internal KPIs.
- Provide excellent client care and develop opportunities to grow business for the team.
- Assist in developing client relationships to promote new commissions.
- Promote WSP’s capabilities and expertise in the region.
- Develop and line manage junior staff.
- Brief the project team and ensure contracts or letters of intent are in place before work starts.
- Maintain project overview and understand the team workload and resource requirements.
- Hold regular team meetings to discuss resourcing, staff issues, health & safety, quality, training & development, and other relevant issues.
- Lead an engineering delivery team, providing innovative and sustainable solutions.
- Incorporate sustainability, net‑zero carbon, digital design, modern construction methods and smart systems into design work.
Qualifications
- Background in Building Services electrical design engineering with a specialism in healthcare projects.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to take a leading management role in guiding engineers.
- Technical judgment and resourcefulness in feasibility studies, concept, scheme and detailed design, as well as construction support phases.
- Ability to represent WSP to clients and understand and deliver client needs in engineering solutions.
- Working knowledge of UK electrical building services design, including relevant standards, codes and regulations.
- Ability to manage the technical, cost and programme elements of project delivery.
- BPSS security clearance is a minimum requirement.
