Introduction
Together, we’re working to welcome millions more passengers, while ensuring aviation can continue to be a force for good by leading global efforts in sustainability. At Heathrow, you can be part of this – providing solutions that make every journey better for millions each year. That means ensuring we meet the changing needs of the passengers, colleagues and partners who use our airport to work, travel, trade, shop, eat, explore and connect. Our Solutions team covers project management, process improvement, business change, technology, cyber defence, masterplanning, infrastructure and procurement. It brings together people with the skills to deliver prestigious and often large‑scale projects, from transforming terminals to making big reductions in our carbon emissions.
Job Description
As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead some of Heathrow’s most complex and high‑value projects. You will work closely with stakeholders to shape requirements, develop scope and design, and produce robust business cases. You will also oversee the safe and efficient delivery of construction activity across our Terminals and Airfield, working in partnership with contractors in a live operational environment. The role will involve working in partnership with senior leaders across the organisation, helping to shape strategies and delivery plans that enable the successful implementation of solutions. You will have responsibility for a multi‑disciplinary project team, providing coaching, development and mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Delivering complex infrastructure projects end‑to‑end, from requirements through to commissioning and handover, meeting agreed cost, schedule, scope and quality targets.
- Progressing projects through governance gateways in line with the Heathrow Gateway Lifecycle, ensuring robust documentation.
- Developing and managing end‑to‑end project plans, setting clear objectives, deliverables and value‑for‑money outcomes, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver an integrated solution.
- Collaborating with peers to improve delivery practices, share learning and support junior development, while building strong stakeholder relationships to understand needs, secure decisions and gain approvals.
- Overseeing project controls and commercial performance, including cost, schedule, risk, change management, reporting, procurement activities and contractor performance.
- Managing supply chain contracts and performance, including procurement activities, commercial administration and contractor oversight, ensuring suppliers deliver to required standards.
- Leading and taking accountability for team health, safety and wellbeing, and ensuring Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) duties are met across all activities.
Skills Are Essential
- Experience managing infrastructure projects across the full lifecycle, including business case development, design, contract management, team leadership, financial control and health, safety, quality and environmental management.
- Proven experience in autonomously leading, managing and developing diverse teams on large infrastructure projects or programmes.
- Proven experience in all aspects of project controls, providing confidence in forecasting, earned‑value performance, programme reliability and projected outturn costs.
- Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work effectively across multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
- Project planning and developing schedules from first principles; reviewing and interrogating contractor schedules and familiarity with P6.
- Experience with contracts (ideally NEC) and supply chain performance management, supported by strong commercial acumen and experience within a contractual environment.
- Professional affiliation, qualification or near‑qualified status with the APM or a similar professional institution.
Ideally you will have
- Degree qualification in an appropriate discipline or equivalent academic achievement.
- Working towards APM Chartered Project Professional (CPP), Achieved APM PMQ or equivalent.
- Achieved NEC accreditation.
Benefits
We offer competitive salaries and excellent benefits that will support you now and in the future. As well as performance‑based annual bonuses and our longer‑term Share in Success Bonus plans, we also offer generous annual leave allowances and market‑leading pensions. With family‑friendly policies, access to private health insurance and a wide range of wellbeing tools, we’ll support you to be at your best inside and outside work. And of course, we’ll provide varied learning and development opportunities too.
Working Location
Our hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.

As an equal opportunities employer, we encourage applications from all. We believe that diverse talent makes us stronger – not least because we welcome passengers from all corners of the globe, every single day.
