Mental Health Practitioner

The Mental Health Team is part of the integrated Healthcare provision at HMP Peterborough. The team consists of Senior Mental Health Nurse’s, occupational Therapist, Perinatal Specialists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and support worker. The Mental Health Team covers a seven-day service, the post holder will work as a core member of the team delivering and providing a comprehensive safe, effective mental health service that encompasses primary and secondary mental health provision within the prison, ensuring a Trauma Informed co-produced recovery focussed service. The post holder will utilise a variety of practical and theoretical knowledge with the team to deliver both individual and group workings with service users open to the Mental Health Team, following the stepped care model.

To be considered for this post you will need to have continuously resided in the UK without any breaks for a minimum of 3 years prior to this application and be able to evidence your years of residency. Please note without sufficient evidence your application may not progress.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Team Manager in their development of operational and clinical service mechanisms.
Act as an exemplar professional role model in embracing core values of dignity, respect, care, and compassion. Be aware of and keep updated on wider agreed service models.
The post holder will work to establish effective multi-disciplinary working. The post holder will undertake mental health assessments and risk assessments, and care planning, and implementation and review of service to people referred to the team both individually and with colleagues from other disciplines.
To care coordinate those on CPA ensuring that reviews are held in line with policy and guidelines.
To provide structured therapeutic interventions with potentially complex clients in one-to-one session or group settings as appropriate.
To manage a caseload and to prioritise effectively.
To participate in multi-disciplinary team working to ensure service user’s needs are met.
To use effective judgement and interventions in emergency clinical situations.
To liaise with other professionals and agencies in the planning and delivery of care for service users ensuring that a quality service is provided within the locality.
To develop and maintain productive working relationships with your team, managers, and other colleagues.
To take personal responsibility to keep your knowledge up to date and to reflect on and evaluate your own values in the wider prison establishment.

Security Vetting
- The application includes evidence of the required years of UK residency to meet prison vetting standards
Professional Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (Mental Health) or Social Worker, Occupational therapist
- Evidence of post-registration continuing professional development activity
- NMP registrant
Experience
- Evidence of working in a Multi-disciplinary team
- Have a understanding of mental health assessments, risk assessment and care planning
- Have awareness of evidence based practice
- Able to prioritise care management
- Knowledge of trauma informed care
- Understanding of the criminal justice pathway
- Worked or had experienced in secured setting
Skills
- Evidence of clinical assessment and formulation skills
- Teaching and presentation skills
- Postgraduate training for example CBT/DBT
