Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Rheumatology
We have a really exciting opportunity for you to join our Rheumatology Advanced Clinical Practitioner team at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Rheumatology (Band 7). The successful post holder will be supported to undertake the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice and upon successful completion will become a Band 8a. The trainee is required to work a minimum of 30 hours (0.8 WTE) as per Health Education / NHS England guidance.
Competence in Non-Medical Prescribing will be required, if supported by the practitioner's professional regulator.
We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational and forward thinking health care professional. You should have extensive experience in Rheumatology as well as having excellent leadership, management and communication skills.
Main duties of the job
- High profile, accessible and responsive leader with managerial and clinical responsibility for the delivery of Advanced Clinical Practice in Rheumatology . Able to make informed decisions within their own speciality and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed standards, targets and objectives are met.
- The post holder will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process. They will work collaboratively with the Rheumatology team to meet the needs of patients, and will play a key role in service delivery and adherence to policy and procedures.
- The post holder will be predominantly clinic based, but may also be required to see patients across the Rheumatology footprint including the Rheumatology Day Case Unit, working alongside medical, nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues, undertaking patient assessment, clinical examination, formulation of differential diagnoses, and development of management plans under supervision. They will also provide support, guidance and advice to junior staff and colleagues in relation to relevant protocols and patient pathways.

- Co-ordinate the care of Rheumatology patients throughout their pathway with the multidisciplinary team and clinical services to ensure the effective management of this group of patients.
- Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct and professional regulatory guidance. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
- Lead and deliver care across a variety of clinical settings such as outpatient, inpatient, virtual clinic, ward rounds, etc.
- Deliver clinical care according to national and local guidelines ensuring delivery of evidence-based care and working towards the Trust vision of providing a World Class Service.
- Assess and prioritise patients within the service to maintain quality care.
- Undertake an initial assessment to determine differential diagnosis, utilising advanced critical thinking and decision-making skills, deciding when necessary to refer to senior clinical colleagues.
- Act autonomously to provide expert clinical care which contributes to the patients treatment plan to ensure that optimum physical, psychological, and social care needs are met.
- Request and interpret relevant investigations to facilitate the development of the patients management plan.
- Proactively refer to other clinicians (own or other services) depending upon patients needs to deliver care beyond your limitations and scope of practice.
- Proactively initiate treatment plans for patients requiring intervention and treatment ensuring ethically based considerations.
- Undertake relevant clinical procedures to facilitate patient care within the service, supported by the appropriate training and supervision.
- Facilitate shared decision making by discussing assessment outcomes with patients, carers, and other health care professionals, to enable patients to make informed decisions regarding treatment.
