We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Nurse to join our Substance Misuse team at HMP Fosse Way, a Category C resettlement prison in Leicester. HMP Fosse Way opened in May 2023 and provides state‑of‑the‑art facilities and a secure environment for delivering skills and qualifications to men, aiming to reduce re‑offending rates.
Job Summary
As a Substance Misuse Nurse your responsibilities will vary. You will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, prioritising patient care to develop individualised packages of care through comprehensive assessment and recovery planning.
- Deliver a range of treatment options including clinical and psychosocial interventions in both group and one‑to‑one settings, with recovery at the centre of our healthcare wellbeing model.
- Carry out comprehensive assessments, initiate and review individual recovery plans and confidently communicate the full range of treatment options available to service users.
- Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects and liaise with prescribers.
- Provide advice and information to individuals on a one‑to‑one basis and support in group work delivery.
- Occasionally be involved in dispensing, and liaise with prescribers and Recovery Practitioners on clinical interventions.
- Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to recovery and a person‑centred approach.
Hours
- Monday – Sunday service – 37.5 hours per week
- 7 am – 8 pm
- 1 weekend in 4
- No nights
- 4‑week rolling rota
Salary
Annual salary £43,609 – £49,175 per annum, depending on experience.

Qualifications & Experience
- Registered nurse with current NMC Adult and NMC Mental Health registration
- Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
- RCGP 1 in Substance Misuse or willingness to undertake
- Experience working with opiate‑dependent patients
- Sound clinical substance‑misuse knowledge
- A non‑judgmental and compassionate approach
Additional Requirements
Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and will undergo additional vetting and security checks. The position requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (RAO) check and current UK professional registration.
