Engineering Manager | Manchester | Hybrid
About the role
Myn is supporting a global platform business with a number of hires at Engineering Manager level as part of a broader evolution within engineering.
These roles sit within individual teams. You’ll lead a cross-functional engineering pod, with responsibility for delivery, team performance and how engineers operate day to day.
The environment is already established, with real systems, scale and complexity. The focus is on improving consistency, strengthening engineering practices and ensuring teams deliver predictably.
Responsibilities
- Lead a cross-functional engineering team (engineers + QA/automation)
- Own team delivery, ensuring work is aligned, predictable and executed effectively
- Manage, coach and develop engineers across performance, growth and career progression
- Create a strong team environment with clear standards, ownership and accountability
- Run and improve core delivery practices (planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives, reviews)
- Identify blockers, inefficiencies and risks, and address them early
- Maintain visibility into day‑to‑day engineering work, including code quality and delivery progress
- Work closely with product and stakeholders on priorities, scope and trade‑offs
- Support adoption of modern engineering practices (CI/CD, automation, observability)
- Drive improvements in flow, release processes and overall delivery effectiveness
- Contribute to system reliability, scalability and operational performance
- Collaborate with senior engineers and architects on design and technical direction
Requirements
- Experience leading software engineering teams as an Engineering Manager
- Strong technical background, able to guide engineers without being hands‑on
- Experience working in production environments with scale, distributed systems or complexity
- Track record of improving team delivery and performance
- Familiarity with modern engineering practices (CI/CD, automation, observability)
- Experience working in agile environments and collaborating with product stakeholders
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
Nice to have
- Experience in complex or regulated environments
- Exposure to platform, infrastructure or backend‑heavy systems
- Experience working in organisations going through change or growth
- Awareness of engineering metrics such as lead time, deployment frequency or system reliability
The environment
Teams are already in place, delivering against a live product used at scale.
The focus now is on improving how teams operate, increasing consistency in delivery, and strengthening engineering standards across the organisation.
You’ll be part of a wider engineering group, working alongside other teams, managers and senior leadership to improve how delivery works overall.
