Targeted Youth Co-ordinator, Grade 8 £49,056- £53,172
Starting Well, Specialist Safeguarding and Youth
About The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual passionate about providing support to the young people of Havering. You will build and sustain relationships with young people across a range of contexts and settings, taking account of the complex lives they live and working to bring about positive change.
The Havering Youth Influence and Participation Team is part of an integrated, systemic model of work across the borough. Working with colleagues from across our local partnership you will offer support and deliver programmes, including detached outreach provision, to young people from the wider Havering Community.
Team activities include open‑access and targeted youth work sessions from the MyPlace Youth and Community Centre in Harold Hill, other community venues, the Children in Care Youth Club, Youth Parliament, SEND provision, and coordination of trips and activities. A detached youth‑work offer operates in known “hotspots” across the borough. 1‑to‑1 targeted casework is completed with young people at risk of exploitation to reduce risk factors and improve confidence.
As one of two Targeted Youth Coordinators you will hold a caseload of young people, providing 1‑to‑1 casework while managing a team of Targeted Youth Support Practitioners and Youth Support Workers.
About You
- Significant experience of working with young people, understanding the range of issues affecting their lives.
- Experience managing and motivating a team.
- Ability to develop relationships with staff from other teams, departments and external agencies, including schools and alternative provisions.
- Experience working in partnership with Children’s Services, Education, the Voluntary Sector and Housing.
- Curiosity about the needs of Havering’s youth population.
- Understanding of contextual safeguarding and risks associated with extra‑familial harm.
- Passion for co‑production with young people to co‑create and design services that meet their needs.
- Prepared to undertake evening and weekend work as needed.
Equal Opportunities
We welcome applications from all people, and your application will be considered on its merits regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, faith, gender identity or sexual orientation. We undertake Disclosure and Barring Service checks where applicable.
