Senior HV Cable System Design Engineer – Contract (Inside IR35)
UK (Epsom / Birmingham / Leeds / Glasgow – Hybrid / Flexible UK-wide)
Up to £65/hr (Umbrella) | 12-month minimum contract
We’re looking for an experienced Senior HV Cable System Design Engineer to join a leading engineering team delivering major transmission-scale onshore and offshore projects across the UK.
This is a senior technical role with real influence across the full project lifecycle — from FEED and concept design through to detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.
You’ll also play a key role in mentoring engineers, supporting technical delivery, and contributing to bids and client engagement activities, helping shape future HV cable capability growth.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading HV cable system design for major transmission projects
- Delivering FEED and detailed design for onshore/offshore cable systems
- Producing cable studies, routing layouts, and installation design
- Supporting installation, testing, and commissioning activities
- Working closely with multidisciplinary teams (civil, primary, secondary, PM)
- Engaging with clients and supporting technical proposals and bids
- Mentoring junior engineers and supporting capability development
- Coordinating with suppliers, OEMs, and subcontractors
What we’re looking for:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Strong background in HV / EHV cable system design
- Experience across design, installation, testing, and commissioning
- Familiarity with utility standards (e.g. National Grid, SPEN, SSEN or equivalent)
- Experience delivering FEED and detailed design packages
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Interest in supporting bids, proposals, and business growth
- Willingness to travel for site visits when required
