Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver courses using the provided syllabi, LMS (Canvas), and textbook resources, ensuring all curricular content aligns with Verto’s academic policies.
- Adhere to local and global faculty and course requirements, including delivery of scheduled contact hours and compliance with the academic calendar.
- Create an inclusive learning environment that respects all students, faculty, and staff.
- Design discipline‑based, up‑to‑date course content and applied learning experiences, advancing curricular experimentation with active and experiential methods.
- Assess student work, provide timely formative feedback, and evaluate mastery of course objectives and learning outcomes.
- Participate in dedicated faculty training and professional development: up to ten hours per semester before the program start and an additional five hours during the semester.
- Attend regular faculty meetings (individual and group) and support ongoing faculty development activities.
- Teach all scheduled courses, host weekly office hours, and respond promptly to student inquiries.
- Champion student success through close monitoring of attendance, engagement, and academic support needs; refer students to appropriate learning support services.
- Enforce policies on attendance and academic integrity, addressing grading questions and appeals directly with students and academic staff.
- Maintain accurate academic records related to enrollment, attendance, and performance, and submit grades on time through the LMS and the Academic Provider’s reporting software.
- Foster respectful, learner‑centered classrooms that support early college student development.
- Use professional language, deliver constructive feedback, and negotiate conflicts effectively.
- Manage classroom dynamics and power relationships responsibly.
- Audit course materials for representation and inclusion of diverse perspectives.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with participants, staff, and community partners.
- Share feedback with local and global academic leaders to enhance academic excellence and faculty support.
- Participate in curriculum development projects and assessment initiatives as directed by the University of New Haven and Verto Education.
- Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree required; a PhD in Sociology or a closely related field preferred.
- At least 18 graduate credits in the relevant field of study.
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in Sociology, with at least one year at the university level.
- Demonstrated success teaching students with varied learning styles and abilities.
- Experience working effectively with students from diverse economic, racial, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
- Openness to feedback and a proven record of continuous improvement in teaching.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfort in implementing policies and standards that align with established regulations.
- Passion for active, experiential, reflective, and discussion‑based learning that helps students derive meaning from their experiences.
- Collaborative mindset and enjoyment of teamwork and peer learning.
