About the Company
Our client is part of a reputable and growing group of companies, with operations based in Belfast. They are now seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant / Head of Accounts to join their finance team within, supporting the Group Finance Manager. This is a key hands-on role offering end-to-end responsibility across all core finance functions within a supportive and collaborative environment.
About the Job
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day accounting operations, supporting month-end and year-end processes, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This is a role suited to someone who enjoys variety and autonomy, with strong technical accounting knowledge and proficiency in Sage 50 and Sage Payroll.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage full accounts function to trial balance including prepayments, accruals, and WIP
- Prepare and post monthly journals, maintaining accurate financial records
- Complete bank reconciliations (GBP & EUR)
- Oversee purchase and sales ledgers and process VAT and RCT returns
- Support month-end and year-end close processes and assist with external audits
- Prepare management reports and assist the Group Finance Manager as required
- Process payroll using Sage Payroll and ensure compliance with statutory requirements
- Maintain and update Excel-based reports and reconciliations
Your Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in a similar Assistant Accountant or Head of Accounts role
- Strong working knowledge of Sage 50 and Sage Payroll
- Experience preparing accounts to trial balance
- Strong understanding of VAT, RCT, and general ledger processes
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, reconciliations)
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach

- Hours: Monday to Friday, full-time office-based (Belfast)
