Alleyn’s is delighted to invite applications for the role of Deputy Head, Pastoral, a senior leadership position at the heart of the School’s commitment to pupil wellbeing, character and belonging.
Alleyn’s is one of the country’s leading co‑educational day schools, located in Dulwich and educating approximately 1,400 pupils aged 4–18. With a history of over 400 years and a strong values‑led ethos, the School is widely recognised for combining academic excellence with an exceptional co‑curricular offer, a deeply inclusive culture and a progressive approach to pupil wellbeing and character education. Alleyn’s has established itself as a national thought leader in pastoral care, contributing to research and wider professional conversations while continually evolving practices to meet the needs of young people in a complex and fast‑changing world.
We are seeking an outstanding, forward‑thinking leader to build on this strong foundation. The Deputy Head, Pastoral will provide strategic oversight of pastoral life across the School, ensuring an integrated and proactive approach to wellbeing, behaviour, inclusion and safeguarding. The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to shape pastoral strategy, drive innovation and cultivate a culture in which relationships, care and high academic expectations are inextricably linked.
Working at Senior Leadership Team level, the post holder will lead and develop a highly skilled pastoral team, overseeing evidence-informed practice and contributing to Alleyn's research-led approach to pastoral education, including established partnerships in character education and wellbeing. Safeguarding sits at the heart of everything the School does, and the post holder will work closely with the experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure safeguarding practice remains robust, compliant and deeply embedded in the culture of the School. The presence of a highly experienced DSL means that the Deputy Head (Pastoral) is also able to direct considerable energy to working not just reactively but proactively and strategically in support of the school’s pastoral priorities.
This is an opportunity to join a confident, kind and intellectually curious school community. We are looking for a leader with clarity of vision, warmth, resilience and ambition, who brings strategic intelligence and practical judgement, and is excited by the opportunity to shape pastoral provision at a whole‑school level. Candidates from a range of backgrounds are warmly encouraged. xwzovoh
