Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer Remote (UK-based) | £70,000 – £80,000
About the Company
Our client is a growing technology business delivering a data and AI platform to a specialist professional services market. They work with demanding, commercially-minded clients and build products that need to perform to a high standard: reliably, at scale, and with real business impact.
It's a business that thinks commercially, moves quickly, and takes the quality of what it builds seriously.
The Role
This is a senior engineering role with real weight to it. You'll be working closely with the Head of Engineering as their right hand, helping to set and uphold code quality standards, mentor engineers across the team, and make sure workstreams are moving in the right direction. The technical execution still matters here; you'll be hands-on in the codebase. But the bigger part of the job is making the team better.
If you're a strong engineer who's ready to step into a leadership-adjacent role without losing touch with the code, this is worth your attention.
What You'll Be Doing
In practice, this role sits across two modes. Some of your time will be spent building: working on a Ruby on Rails backend, React frontend, GraphQL APIs, and the data modelling challenges that come with a platform serving complex commercial use cases. The rest will be spent raising the bar: reviewing code with a critical eye, establishing and enforcing quality standards, identifying where the team's ways of working could be sharper, and mentoring engineers who are earlier in their careers.
You'll also play a meaningful role in how work gets planned and prioritised. Moving workstreams forward, flagging blockers early, and working closely with product, QA and BA colleagues to make sure engineering is never the bottleneck.
What We're Looking For
You'll have strong, proven Ruby on Rails experience in production. That's the foundation. Beyond the technical baseline, this role calls for someone who takes quality seriously and can bring others along with them, not just by saying what good looks like but by demonstrating it.
