Structured Finance Senior Associate - London
An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a high-performing Structured Finance associate to join one of the market’s most strategically positioned practices in London.
A leading international firm is continuing the growth of its Structured Finance offering and is actively looking to add a strong Senior Associate into the team as part of a broader long-term expansion plan. The group has built a particularly strong reputation across complex cross-border structured finance transactions and continues to win sophisticated mandates across the European market.
This is not simply a replacement hire. The team is intentionally investing at Senior Associate level and is especially keen to speak with lawyers looking for a platform that offers genuine progression visibility, high-quality technical work and a more transparent long-term career structure than many competing firms.
The practice itself is partner-heavy with a leaner associate structure beneath it, creating a very different dynamic to many larger City teams. For ambitious associates, this means:
• Greater visibility internally
• Earlier access to meaningful responsibility
• Less hierarchy and fewer progression bottlenecks
• A much clearer route toward senior progression
The work is broad, technical and consistently international in nature, with exposure including:
• Private securitisations
• Structured lending transactions
• Complex and bespoke financing structures
• Cross-border and multi-jurisdictional matters
• Documentation-heavy transactions involving structuring and negotiation
• Structured insurance, reinsurance and asset servicing exposure
The successful candidate will typically have:
• 5–7 PQE, although strong candidates slightly outside this range will still be considered
• Strong private practice structured finance experience from a respected platform
• Experience handling complex transactions with significant technical depth
• Genuine client exposure and hands-on deal management experience
• Strong academics and stable career progression
The firm offers an especially compelling platform for lawyers thinking carefully about long-term development.
One of the standout aspects of the team is the clarity around progression. Unlike many firms where promotion criteria can feel opaque or political, the practice operates with a highly structured development framework that clearly outlines what is required at each level. Associates are given meaningful visibility over expectations, progression metrics and development areas well ahead of review periods.
The pathway beyond Senior Associate is also unusually well-defined:
• A Director route focused on leadership, business development and partnership progression
• An Of Counsel route for those wanting a more technically focused career track
The compensation structure is similarly transparent, with:
• Bonus potential reaching up to 30%
• Clear performance metrics and measurable targets
• Live visibility into performance tracking throughout the year
From a lifestyle perspective, the team also offers one of the more balanced setups within the London market:
• Hybrid working structure (3 days office / 2 days home)
• 1,500-hour target across all levels
• Collaborative, sustainable team culture without sacrificing work quality
Importantly, this should not be viewed as a “lifestyle” role in the traditional sense. The practice remains highly sophisticated and demanding, but operates with a noticeably more balanced and structured environment than many peer firms competing in the same space. The current external focus sits firmly at Senior Associate level, and strong profiles are likely to receive quick engagement and feedback.
For associates looking to combine genuinely sophisticated structured finance work with a clearer and more achievable long-term progression path, this is an opportunity well worth exploring confidentially.
