The Role Quantity Surveyor
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured projects, our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.
This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to work across a range of construction projects, supporting both pre-contract and post-contract commercial activities while working closely with operational and management teams.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Contract Duties
- Take off quantities for tendering purposes where required
- Assist the Estimating department with tender preparation
- Carry out estimating duties as required
- Support budget setting and cost planning
- Review contracts and contractual documentation
Post-Contract Duties
- Appointment and management of subcontractors and labour-only subcontractors
- Preparation of valuations and cost value reconciliation reports
- Carry out cost investigations and reporting
- Measurement and agreement of subcontract accounts
- Identify, measure, and agree project variations
- Identify value engineering and cost-saving opportunities
- Monitor monthly cash flow against budget forecasts
- Provide contractual and commercial advice to management
- Measurement and agreement of final accounts
- Attend site meetings and present financial reports
- Prepare subcontractor payments in line with CIS and VAT requirements
- Provide monthly and quarterly cost/valuation reports to accounts and management teams
- Ensure subcontractor insurances comply with contractual requirements
- Produce management reports and commercial updates as required
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 3 years Quantity Surveying experience within a construction contracting environment
- Third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
- Strong knowledge of NEC, JCT and FIDIC forms of contract
- Experience preparing and managing contractual claims
- Knowledge of Conquest estimating packages preferred
- Strong commercial awareness and cost management skills
- Ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and deliver projects within budget
- Up-to-date knowledge of pricing trends and inflation impacts
- Advanced Microsoft Office and IT skills
- Strong negotiation, communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage workload independently and meet project deadlines
- Flexibility to travel across the UK where required
