Sub‑Specialty Trainee in Gynaecological Oncology (ST6‑7)

The post will be a full‑time year 6/7 SpR in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, primarily working within the Department of Gynaecological Oncology. The post holder will gain experience in managing gynaecological cancer patients by participating in multidisciplinary meetings, managing oncology patients on the ward and in outpatients, and receiving further training to complete sub‑specialty training. Rota includes some obstetric cover out of hours, delivered in a way to minimise impact on Gynaecological Oncology sub‑specialty training.
Responsibilities include participating in the resident on‑call rota for Senior Registrars (ST6/7), providing senior medical input into pre‑ and post‑operative patient management and gynaecological emergencies, and supervising and teaching junior staff.
The post holder is expected to have passed MRCOG Part 3 (or equivalent) and completed at least 3 years at registrar or equivalent level in an RCOG approved unit. Excellent communication and inter‑personal skills are required for teamwork with patients, families, consultants, junior medical staff, midwives and nurses.
Education / Qualifications
- MRCOG Part 3
- Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
- Higher research degree (MD or PhD)
Previous Experience
- At least 3 years at SpR level (ST 3‑5)
Skills / Knowledge / Ability
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology knowledge and skills appropriate for ST 6/7
- Satisfactory references
- Management skills
- Knowledge of audit and research methods
Physical Requirements
- Work in a busy Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit and undertake on‑call duties during days and nights.
