Project Overview

Bechtel is building a major aviation project in the Greater London area that will redefine air travel. The scope includes planning, design, integration, and delivery of airfield infrastructure, buildings, systems, and adjacent infrastructure.

Job Summary

As a Civil/Structural Engineer, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine scope and cost estimates, lead design and construction reviews, and ensure complex civil/structural requirements are met. This is a part‑time telework position requiring at least three days of in‑person attendance per week.

Major Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct independent civil/structural work requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of techniques, procedures, and criteria on medium‑sized projects or assignments.
  • Lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of civil/structural components and processes using EDPs, BSAPs, DCCLs, and DRNs.
  • Review and approve key design documents, supplier drawings, material specifications, change orders, and bid summaries.
  • Design structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
  • Determine appropriate use of structural elements (steel, wood, masonry, concrete) based on load or stress requirements.
  • Generate and verify complex civil/structural deliverables such as calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Develop conceptual designs for projects with specialized or unique requirements.
  • Prepare or oversee preparation of discipline estimates and work plans aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget; support implementation and performance reporting.
  • Interpret new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
  • Mentor civil/structural engineering personnel by providing on‑the‑job training.
  • Lead constructability reviews.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) plus 10–13 years of relevant experience, or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced contributor with specialized skill set in civil/structural engineering.
  • Highly skilled and proficient in discipline, with full understanding of the area of specialization.
  • Seasoned professional capable of resolving complex issues creatively and effectively.
